A celebration of the power of sports and the joy of competition, the Special Olympics PA Philadelphia Spring Games is the largest annual Special Olympics competition in Philadelphia. The event also serves as a community building event, bringing people with and without intellectual disabilities together to celebrate and build a more inclusive Philadelphia!
The 2023 Special Olympics PA Philadelphia Spring Games, presented by NJM Insurance, will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at William Penn Charter School.
The Philadelphia Spring Games started in 1977 and continues to be the largest Special Olympics competition in Philadelphia! The day starts with the Law Enforcement Torch Run kicking off at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Local police officers then run the Flame of Hope 3.1 miles to William Penn Charter School for Opening Ceremony. After Opening Ceremony and the lighting of the cauldron, the games officially begin!
Three hundred athletes from around Philadelphia and surrounding counties compete in Athletics (Track & Field), Basketball, and Tennis. In addition to the competition, future athletes and children of all abilities are invited to join the Young Athletes inclusive play and intro to sports activity stations for ages 2 -7. This year’s event will also feature a Unified Soccer skills showcase highlighting the Philadelphia Unified Soccer program and opportunities to get involved in the next Special Olympics PA sports season.
When athletes aren’t competing or fans are taking a break from cheering, they can head to Olympic Village to participate in fun activities like yard games, arts and crafts, and educational resources! Lunch is provided to our athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Concessions are available for purchase, as well as some Special Olympics PA gear and Special Olympics PA – Philadelphia gear! We encourage you to experience Philadelphia Spring Games with us!
