The Special Olympics PA Philadelphia Spring Games started in 1977 and is the biggest competition event Special Olympics PA, Philadelphia holds! The day starts with the Law Enforcement Torch Run kicking off at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in Philadelphia, PA. Local police officers then run the Flame of Hope 3.1 miles to William Penn Charter for the Opening Ceremonies. After the lighting of the cauldron, the Games officially begin! Three hundred athletes from around Philadelphia and surrounding counties compete in Athletics (Track & Field), Basketball, and Tennis. In addition to the competition, there is also a Young Athletes demonstration where our young athletes, ages 2 -7, show off what they have been learning in the program. When athletes aren’t competing, they can head to Olympic Village where they can partake in some fun activities! Lunch is provided to our athletes, coaches, and volunteers. Concessions are available for purchase, as well as some Special Olympics PA gear and Special Olympics PA – Philadelphia gear! We encourage you to experience Philadelphia Spring Games with us!
