Healthy Athletes

Special Olympics promotes the overall well-being of people with intellectual disabilities through programs that ensure ongoing access to quality, community-based healthcare services.

In Philadelphia, free health screenings are offered at events like MedFest, where doctors, nurses and other medical professionals volunteer their time and expertise. Special Olympics PA –  Philadelphia athletes can also attend Health Athletes expos at select state-level competitions including Indoor Winter Games, Summer Games, and Fall Festival.

Developed in 1997, Special Olympics Healthy Athletes ® is a program that provides a variety of free health screenings including dental, vision, nutrition, and hearing. These screenings are offered in a fun, welcoming environment that removes the anxiety and trepidation people with intellectual disabilities often experience when faced with a visit to a doctor or dentist.
