Because 2020 is a year unlike any other, we did something new for this year’s Sectionals… We combined the Western, Central, and Eastern Sectionals into ONE BIG SPECTACULAR EVENT, the 2020 SOPA Fall Sectionals!! DeSales University, Juniata College, and Slippery Rock University all came together to put on a virtual experience for our athletes including Opening Ceremonies, a Virtual Dance Party, and of course an Awards Ceremony! This year’s theme for sectionals was “All Roads Lead to Inclusion” where all three universities’ students and volunteers took us on a one-of-a-kind virtual road trip.
Special Olympics PA – Philadelphia athletes were featured in some of the videos, so make sure to look out for them. To help you out, here are the athlete who were featured in the various videos. Alivia Sciarra carried in our “flag” during the Parad of Athletes. Ammer Wood was featured reciting the athlete oath. Allie Ruitzer, John Mitchell, and Katie Moore were featured in the Competition Highlights (AM). Melissa Black, Teddy Angerman, Katie Moore, Marissa Williams, Joseph Barut, and Alivia Sciarra were featured in the Competition Highlights (PM).
Our athletes participated in bocce, flag football, long-distance running/walking, powerlifting, soccer, and volleyball!
